[That....is certainly a good reason to take some time. She has to bite her tongue not to comment- as it is, the wide eyes say plenty about her thoughts. It's delayed....but-] AH! Hey! [She greets, looking a bit frantically to each side of the tent before spotting the dummy she'd 'dressed up'. RIGHT, YES, THERE THEY ARE-] Ah-m!

Right, here! After you said what you needed, I thought this might be perfect..~ It's actually traditional where I came from, so it was pretty easy to pull together on the spot... [That is not why, nor was it easy-]

[Left in Carly's mailbox is a painted card, along with a small, thoroughly taped bunch of wrapping and tissue paper. The card smells of pine needles, snow and a fireplace, and features Papyrus, waving enthusiastically ahead. Somehow there's boneprint snowflakes faintly falling against the pale background. Along the header and footer, the card reads:]

HAPPY GYFTMAS
(ON THE MOON)
FROM PAPYRUS!!!

[Inside, a personal message continues:]

I SAW THIS, AND THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE IT!
I WASN'T SURE IF YOU'D WANT ANY COOL MAGICAL FABRIC, SINCE YOU PROBABLY SEE A LOT IN YOUR JOB...
BUT IF YOU DO! LET ME KNOW!
I HAVE A LITTLE MONEY I'M KEEPING ASIDE FOR LAST MINUTE, EMERGENCY GIFTING.
AND SLIGHTLY LESS EMERGENCY GIFTS.
BUT FASHION EMERGENCIES PROBABLY QUALIFY.

[The gift itself is a hummingbird broach made of relatively cheap materials, not much good for trading away.]

[ It would take a denser man than Lambert to miss the look on Carly's face, but he's relieved she doesn't press it. But then that leaves the matter of the outfit she's laid out for him, which he scrutinizes with a quizzical eye. ]

Sorcerer robes are traditional where you come from? [ Lambert is a regular bastion of cultural sensitivity or refinement, to no one's surprise. Still, it looks a lot less frumpy than the robes he's seen before. ]

[Left at Carly's cabin is an origami hummingbird with a note next to it:]

Carly,

Thank you for helping me with the sewing! I know you're all on vacation too but it was really important to me to get it right.

You can still ask me whenever you need help with something too.

Happy Solstice (I think that's what the Ringmaster called it)

[ A package is dropped off at the wardrobe tent, addressed to Carly. Inside is 10 yards of the fabric described here and with a note in Lambert's clear, blocky script: ]

Since you're always making clothes for everyone else, you can use this to make yourself something for a change. I know shit all about what colors look good on someone who's always on fire, so I got you something you can change to whatever you want, whenever you want. Touch it and name a pattern or color, and you'll see for yourself. Just don't confuse it, or the results won't be pretty.

Happy solstice, or something.

Lambert

I've a few questions for you! [ And then, without waiting for anything, Strange just continues talking. ]

One, can you teach me basic sewing stitches? Nothing too fancy, I simply want to sew someone's name on something and sew two pieces of fabric together for another. And another question: there is leftover fabric and ribbons when wardrobe makes outfits, correct? Can I use a piece or two of that for a present? Nothing too large, of course, it's for someone tiny.
kingsroads: (well drat now)

[personal profile] kingsroads 2017-11-28 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's for a dog, so I doubt the dog will care about the embroidery. I just need some way to tell other people that the gift is the dog's in the first place. [ there's a paaaause before. ] And the tiny gift is for a polecat.

[ Why yes, it seems Strange is just making presents for animals. just roll with it Carly, this is apparently a thing. ]

Oh!

....I see! [Honestly that's adorable and she's grinning ear to ear.] In that case, I'd be happy to help~! If it turns out to be necessary, I can even handle the lettering for you if you want~! But we'll definitely try and get you as good as you can get first, [She adds, coughing.]
kingsroads: (me & my stupid hat)

[personal profile] kingsroads 2017-11-28 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
You've your hands full already! I'm going to handle the lettering entirely on my own, I simply need to learn how to make the stitches.

kingsroads: (maybe don't DO that?!)

[personal profile] kingsroads 2017-11-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
We currently live in the same cabin and I'm not an idiot. I don't know what you're specifically doing but you've certainly spent your time doing something.

[ HE KNOWS, CARLY. ]

....................well it'd be Easier to give presents to my workers if they weren't in my cabin, you know.... [Thank you for existing Junko, CLEARLY STRANGE NEVER HAS TO KNOW HE'S GETTING STUFF NOW]

And it'd be ready by now if I could spend more than 20 minutes down there!!!

[Don't you dare peek you Horrible Magician-]
kingsroads: (dude are you sure?)

[personal profile] kingsroads 2017-11-28 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, use me as an excuse. We'll go down to the carnival together, you teach me how to sew for part of it, and I'll work on my project while you work on yours for the other part.

[RIGHT WELL -AHEM-] Great~!

Just let me set up the machine properly first; it'll give me time to make sure there's fabric there already too!

So you'd be able to grab some from the market worst case! [Yes good excellent SHE NEEDS TO H IDE THIN GS]
whattaprick: (did you even notice?)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-11-28 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [ From Lambert's blank stare, it's clear the name doesn't ring any sort of a bell. Portland Lambert would have known, of course, but sadly he didn't retain any of that potentially useful knowledge. ]

Relaxing sounds about what I could use right now. [ He looks it over, squinting. It's certainly festive... with a shrug, he's just going to grab for the hem of his shirt. ]

Not that hard to put on, is it?
insidescoop: (HEH?)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-11-28 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty easy~! Men's kimono are easiest, honestly....women have a pretty complicated knot to deal with at the back, so it's tricky for us to do that alone, but for men's wear, even the formal stuff can go on without trouble...

It's sort of like putting a bathrobe on, really!
kingsroads: (small cheeky little smile)

[personal profile] kingsroads 2017-11-28 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll need to grab some fabric anyway for one of the presents. Simply give me a call once you've gotten things set up!
whattaprick: (sounds fake but ok)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-11-30 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Women's clothes are always more complicated.

[ One of the many reasons Lambert's glad he isn't a woman. Anyway, he sure is taking his clothes off, loosening it enough to slip the tunic over his head and free of his horns. Underneath, his skin is as scarred as ever, but the new addition is the stone that begins around midbelly, starting as patches of rock that form seamlessly into his legs. The effect's still a bit like Lambert might have dipped himself into molten rock and come out with a fresh new stone coating, though it moves with an unsettlingly lifelike animation.

No eerily photorealistic stone dick, though. Carly's spared at least that. ]

All right, let's try it.
whattaprick: (are you fucking kidding?)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-12-04 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's nothing you haven't seen before! [ Well -- sort of. He did run around in little enough in Alola to let an overactive imagination fill some of the gaps in. He's snickering, though, which means he's almost certainly partly doing this to rile Carly up, but all right, now ... time for the moment of truth, here.

... uh. ]
So, where do I start?
insidescoop: (MMMMMM...)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-12-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Th-That isn't any way to put things, you know!! Just because you've seen something doesn't mean you want to see it again! [wait, that came out wrong- uh-]

First, put the kimono robe on, and fold it over with the right side on the top.
